This unusual home – a ground floor apartment with a two-story basement extension – in the heart of the capital, presented a somewhat quirky brief; the owner wanted to combine a period interior design in some rooms with a more contemporary approach in others, yet achieving congruence throughout.
The result is a seamlessly elegant, contemporary home with classic period features. The entertaining rooms combine Georgian fireplaces, cabinets and chandeliers with modern settees and coffee tables, with the subdued colour scheme bringing the interior design together effortlessly. Other spaces – such as the kitchen, bathrooms and fitness suite – are shamelessly contemporary.
Specifying the right ironmongery to suit this residence was, of course, more difficult than usual. However, the Strada London team managed to supply a comprehensive package of architectural hardware – including bespoke door furniture, locks, hinges and window fittings – that suited the needs of each room yet maintained a coherent approach. With an order value of some £40,000, the scope of supply also included cabinetry fittings and decorative radiator grilles in a matching finish.
